The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) formerly known as EMT-Basic course includes online homework lectures as well as weekly classroom lectures in addition to skill labs to care for medical and trauma related emergencies. The course will also cover mass casualty care, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and medical legal. All students will conduct lab sessions in our 7 ALS training ambulances which will include obstacle course driving. The course will include a minimum of 58 hours of online lectures, 95 hours of classroom as well as 32 hours of clinicals and internships with area emergency departments and/or 911 EMS providers. Upon successful completion of the course participants will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written exam for national certification.

  • START DATE: March 31, 2025 END DATE: August 14, 2025 – COURSE IS FULL
  • Meets on Monday and Thursday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after April 10th, class will only be on Thursday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on June 14th and June 28th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • Holiday/No Class: July 3rd
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • START DATE: May 5, 2025 END DATE: September 9, 2025
  • Meets on Monday and Tuesday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after May 13th, class will only be on Tuesday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on July 19th and Aug 2nd from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday/No Class: None
  • START DATE: June 2, 2025 END DATE: August 18, 2025 (SUMMER RAPID PACE PROGRAM)
  • DO NOT TAKE THIS RAPID PACED COURSE BECAUSE IT IS ONLY A 3 MONTH PROGRAM. THIS IS A FAST-PACED COURSE AND YOU NEED TIME TO DO HOMEWORK AND STUDY.
  • Meets on every Saturday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • Meets on every other Mondays from 6pm to 10pm starting June 2, 2025.
  • On average there is 8 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday/No Class: July 5th – no class
  • START DATE: June 30, 2025 END DATE: November 5, 2025
  • Meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after July 9th, class will only be on Wednesday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on Sept 13th and Sept 27th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday/No Class: None
  • START DATE: August 11, 2025 END DATE: December 18, 2025
  • Meets on Monday and Thursday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after Aug 21st, class will only be on Thursday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on Oct 25th and Nov 1st from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • Holiday/No Class: Nov 27th – no class
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • START DATE: September 15, 2025 END DATE: February 10, 2026
  • Meets on Monday and Tuesday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after Sept 23rd, class will only be on Tuesday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on Dec 6th and Dec 20th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday/No Class: Nov 25, Dec 23, Dec 30
  • START DATE: November 3, 2025 END DATE: April 1, 2026
  • Class will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after November 13th, class will only be on Wednesday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on Feb 7 and Feb 21 from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday Interruption:  Nov 26, Dec 24, Dec 31 – No class
  • START DATE: January 5, 2026 END DATE: May 14, 2026
  • Class will meet on Monday and Thursday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after Jan 16th, class will only be on Thursday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on March 21st and April 11th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday Interruption:  None
  • START DATE: February 9, 2026 END DATE: June 16, 2026
  • Class will meet on Monday and Tuesday evenings 6pm to 10pm FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS.
  • Starting after February 18th, class will only be on Tuesday evenings + the following 2 Saturdays on April 25th and May 9th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • On average there is 5 hours of required homework assignments per week.
  • Holiday Interruption: None
  • Prerequisites:
  • 18 years of age at time course concludes.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Under 18 years of age can take the class and become NREMT certified. Graduate will not receive their Texas Department of State Health Services (TxDSHS) certificate (to work) until a high school diploma/GED is provided and turns 18 years of age.
  • Those convicted for any type of sexual assault may not become certified by TxDSHS and all other criminal acts are reviewed by TXDSHS on a case-by-case basis. Contact the school to speak with a program coordinator for assistance.
  • Computer or other viewing device with reliable internet service to view online lecture videos.
  • Course Fees:
  • $1450 (a minimum of 1/2 of the course fee is due at time of registration to reserve a seat and is non-refundable. The remaining balance is due the first-class session.)
  • EMTS does accept:
  • CollegeInvest (Direct Portfolio College Savings Plan)
  • Texas Workforce Commission
  • Includes: course textbooks in e-book format, classroom, lab and clinical fees, clinical polo, liability insurance $1m/5m, AHA BLS certification.
  • Does not include: immunizations if not current, drug testing fee ($40), stethoscope ($13) and trauma shears ($5). Upon completion of the course students will be responsible for NREMT exam fees ($104), TxDSHS application ($64) and FACT criminal background for certification ($38).

Why is this important? EMTS has a high pass percentage but also high enrollment. EMTS does not simply pass the top performing students to increase our pass percentage.
