• Nursing students or current nurses needing EKG training in order to take the American Heart Associations (AHA) ACLS and PALS programs.
• Highly recommended for EMT’s that are planning to enroll in an upcoming paramedic program. Cardiology is one of the most difficult portions of a paramedic program.
• Entry level healthcare professions (EMT, MA, PCT, NA) to enhance their ability to be more involved as a team member in direct patient care.

The class is fast paced and concise. You will be required to study outside of classroom time. The textbook we are using is a combination textbook/workbook. The course consists of 24 total hours of classroom and on average 4 hours of homework/review time. The class will focus on basic EKG rhythms such as sinus, atrial, junctional, ventricular, and heart blocks.  Participants will focus on the 5 step analysis format for reading EKG’s. This class will include introduction to 12-lead interpretation as well as administering 12-lead’s.

• Evening 1 (6pm to 10pm) – Introduction, Heart A&P, Sinus/Atrial Rhythm Intro
• Evening 2 (6pm to 10pm) – Review Sinus/Atrial Rhythms, Introduce Junctional and Heart Blocks
• Saturday 1 (8am to 4:30pm) – Review Heart Blocks/Junctionals. Introduce and perform 12-leads and discussion on various monitoring techniques. 40 Strip EKG Quiz/Review
• Evening 3 (6pm to 10pm) – Review 12-leads. EKG Practice, Practice, Practice.
• Evening 4 (6pm to 10pm) – Special Patients, EKG Practice, Final Test
• Note: The syllabus may be shortened to fit the speed and intensity of the class. This will be based on participants background and participation.
• Note: Participants have the option of challenging the final exam after the first 16 hours of the course are complete. If a participant wishes to sit for the national CET exam all sessions must be attended.

All graduates of the program will receive an EMTS completion certification. This certification will allow the student the option to sit for a nationally accredited certification. Those who successfully complete the program may choose to take the National Healthcare Associates (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam.  The certification is accredited by The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (“NCCA”), a division of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (“ICE”).
